Sundiro SY 70, special yacht of Cristian Grande for Sundiro Yacht
CHRISTIAN GRANDE APPOINTED OFFICIAL YACHT DESIGNER FOR THE SUNDIRO-SANLORENZO JOINT VENTURE
The prestigious Sanlorenzo brand and the Chinese colossal Sundiro Holding created Sundiro Yacht early in 2014, and entrusted design development for the entire gamma to the Cristian Grande Design Studio.
The Parma based Cristian Grande Studio has already created several ambients in collaboration with the Italian Sanlorenzo yard.
The first model of the Sundiro line, the SY70, was officially presented May 1st at the Hong Kong boat show. Built entirely in Italy, the SY70 was created specifically for the Chinese market. With several different possibilities in layout and décor, this yacht is ready to meet the tastes of more traditional clients in addition to those who prefer typical western styling.
Cristian Grande is already active as a leading designer in the Far East, collaborating with several firms, most recently with DFC-Wuxi Dong High Speed Craft in the production of patrol craft and commercial vessels.
SY 70 – PRIMARY FEATURES
The Sundiro SY 70 was designed by Cristian Grande, with special attention paid to overall harmony and the smallest of details. Her interior layout is designed for the Asian market, with the emphasis on friendly entertainment. The full beam entertainment room is central to this philosophy, along with a spacious galley and the belowdecks dining area. Both the main deck and flybridge, equipped with steering controls, have the same emphasis on relaxing entertainment, with guests or with friends. The main deck offers a vast dining area with a table that can host eight guests, along with a hidden TV screen and a large room to relax in, with sofas on both sides. The flybridge repeats the same scheme and offers two very useful transformable areas with sofas.
EXTERIORS
Exterior design is very straightforward, characterized by several elements that remind the observer of the close ties to Sanlorenzo while clearly declaring their own character and identity. Straightforward aesthetics and full length windows continue throughout the superstructure, giving the living area ample visibility of the sea. This is in contrast to the more discrete openings belowdecks that increase privacy for the areas dedicated to rest and intimate moments.
INTERIORS AND DÉCOR
The interiors are characterized by elegant and straightforward modern styling.
This choice was made directly by Cristian Grande who desired clean shapes with minimalist lines, highlighted by the use of sophisticated materials. The main theme of the furnishing’s décor has a very light color, with open-pore grey wood and overheads in lacquered white that give rhythm to the effect. It is all highlighted by alternating illumination between contrasting darker elements, such as some of the cabin walls and trim painted in lacquered bronze with special metallic overtones, or other metallic elements treated with nickel, giving them a special dark sheen. The resulting ambient is very refined thanks to a delicate distribution of illumination, and valorized by the masterly use of light tones. This preference for sober elegance and formal sharpness is coupled with several series of accessories and furnishings, custom designed by Cristian Grande. There are tables and lamps characterized by different chromatic variations in the “Madagascar Orange” or “Emerald Green” series.
Once again Cristian Grande has successfully completed his brief, designing a balanced yacht, elegant and at the same time flexible and customizable, while maintaining the unmistakable touch of Italian styling that made Cristian famous.
COMING SOON
The Design studio from Parma is presently designing the three cabin version of the SY70, while the second model of the range is undergoing preliminary studies.
Further details will be released to the press in the course of this year.
Who is Christian Grande
Christian Grande is one of the youngest Italian designers to become part of the palmares of yacht designers. He has designed innovative vessels since 1992, courageously designing the yachts that will later become corner stones in nautical design. Presently Cristian has completed over 100 yacht designs and been presented with more than 15 international awards. He has also worked for Sacs and Sanlorenzo.
Benetti Vivace 125’, world debut at Cannes Yachting Festival 2015
Benetti Vivace 125′ – second model of the Fast Displacement series – will make its debut at the next Cannes Yachting Festival (8-13 September).
Vivace 125′ joins the flagship Class Fast Displacement line, Veloce 140’, and takes inspiration from its forerunners construction technology, stylistic features, and spatial layout.
Benetti Class Vivace 125’ is a composite and carbon construction yacht built at the Viareggio boatyard; it is a 38.10 metre by 8.30 metres semi-wide body with three decks plus sun deck. Much like its bigger sister, Stefano Righini has designed the F-125′ with a sporty exterior employing generous amounts of horizontal windows to accentuate the sleek lines; its hallmark is a large central design element at the sides enclosing the upper deck stair.
The interior layout is articulated in 4 suites for 8 guests and the owner’s apartments forward on the main deck, at full beam. The captain plus a crew of 7 is available to see to all the guest’s needs.
Thanks to an exclusive agreement, Vivace 125′ is equipped with an innovative series of azipod transmissions expressly designed by Rolls-Royce for Benetti: carbon Azipull 65C pods.
The D2P_Displacement Planing® hull equipped with wave piercer was perfected by Benetti technicians for the Rolls-Royce propulsion pod by optimising all the stern tunnel thrusters and those elements impacting hydrodynamic coefficients. The result is an even greater improvement of the already enhanced propulsion efficiency of the pod drives.
The D2P® hull with wave piercer enables the new Fast Displacement series to reach higher speeds without engine strain, or to cruise in displacement mode at an economical speed with a much greater range.
Full details of the yacht will be released during the Cannes Yachting Festival 2015.
NEB/Zurn 50, new restyling by Zurn Yacht Design
ICONIC NEW ENGLAND DESIGN NEB/ZURN 50 RESTYLED
-One of-a-kind custom commuter boat for approx 60 knots top speed
-Composite hull construction equipped twin MAN 1,200 hp diesels and Rolls Royce jet drives

Zurn Yacht Design is pleased to announce the restyling of the NEB/Zurn 50, a semi-custom built vessel that combines the leading edge work of yacht designer Doug Zurn and the masterful construction techniques of New England Boatworks.
First launched in 2013 as a custom commuter boat, the NEB/Zurn 50 focuses on owner-tailored specifications, while maintaining its iconic New England design, modern marine engineering, and composite hull construction.
ALL ABOUT PERFORMANCE AND TECHNOLOGY
As a true high performance cruiser, the lightweight hull, ease of maneuvering, and the optional MAN 1,550 hp diesel engines makes the NEB/Zurn 50 one of the fastest day boats of its type, with a top speed of 60 knots. Ideal for in-port use as a cruiser, the boat is also well suited for covering long distances quickly – whether in the Mediterranean, among the islands of the Caribbean, or along the coast of Maine and farther afield.
The NEB/Zurn 50 is offered standard with twin MAN 1,200 hp diesels and Rolls Royce jet drives. It cruises comfortably at 40 knots, reaching 50 knots incorporating the latest integrated ride control technology to insure ease of maneuvering.
“We are very excited about the re-launch of the NEB/Zurn 50 and our ongoing collaboration with New England Boatworks,” says Doug Zurn, founder of Zurn Yacht Design. “This flagship vessel not only stands out for the beauty of its design and construction, but no other vessel of its kind can reach these speeds with such efficiency. In fact, there is no other boat of its type that touches its speed.“
The hull and deck is built using high-tech, epoxy resin infused composite construction, a technique that New England Boatworks is revered for in the marine industry. Even with the open Pilot House and engine boxes in the deck, the NEB/Zurn 50 is a noticeably quiet ride with sound levels at the helm of 85 dB(A) at 40 kt cruise, thanks to the Marine Exhaust inline silencers and extensive noise and vibration treatments by Soundown.
CUSTOMIZABLE INTERIOR AND DECK LAYOUT
A tour of the boat begins in the large, teak deck cockpit, easily accessed through the transom door or over the sides that include a concealed fold-down step. Removable port and starboard cockpit day beds allow space for swimming and activities in the daytime, and later transforms into elegant seating for a sunset cruise or cocktail party.
Raised platforms in the house offer space for a desk work station, and settees or chair seating with teak table and beverage fridge – perfect for informal meetings and socializing. Large windscreens and side windows give a wide view for enjoying the scene and for safe navigation and maneuvering. The helm station provides easy, intuitive access to control panels and navigation tools from the comfortable Stidd seating.
Below deck is found a rich interior that offers both simplicity and luxury, with ease of movement throughout. Joinery is meticulously crafted, with framed panel doors, teak sole, and wood lining the hull.
The interior arrangement is built to suit the owner. Options include an L – or C-shaped galley, and twin bunk cabin or settee dinette area. The single head includes a separate hot and cold shower. The master cabin is located forward, sporting a queen-sized island-berth, cedar lined lockers, and ample storage. Marine Air air-conditioning and heating is offered throughout the interior and pilot house, as well as a sound system that also serves the cockpit.
10 MONTHS OF CONSTRUCTION TIME
With production tooling available and construction time placed at 10 months, this is a great time to consider the NEB/Zurn 50 – a true lifestyle boat with a strong sense of purpose. Those interested in learning more about this project should contact Zurn Yacht Design and New England Boatworks for further details.
“Working with New England Boatworks means we work with some of the most talented custom builders the industry has to offer,” says Zurn. “They have the highest quality of workmanship and the highest standards of perfection. Every detail is considered – large or small –making their vessels simply flawless. We are pleased that we can offer this ongoing collaboration with such talented boat builders.”

FLOATING LIFE CHARTER&BROKERAGE INTRODUCES THE FRACTIONAL OWNERSHIP FOR CUSTOM LINE 97 – M/Y INSPIRATION B
Floating Life Charter&Brokerage – after the successful launches of Yacht Plus superyacht fractional ownership program in 2009, today announces the introduction of the most astute and financially sensible way of living the superyacht: a new fractional ownership program for M/Y Inspiration B a Custom Line 97.
Floating Life Charter&Brokerage provides this “third way” to experience the joys of owning a superyacht, by taking the hassle and costs out of yacht ownership and adding the service of Floating Life Owners; a powerful new equation in luxury yachting.
The concept of fractional ownership is becoming acknowledged as the logical and more astute way of owning high-end luxury products – be it yachts, property, planes, cars etc. This 2015 new fractional ownership offer is based on the relevant achievements that Floating Life had from the launches of Ocean Emerald (2009), Ocean Pearl (2010) and Ocean Sapphire (2011), the management and the chartering of the threes 41m superyacht Foster+Partner’s design.
Nothing compares to the sense of sovereignty from owning a private luxury yacht. But very soon the yacht will take control of owners’ life. Maintenance worries plague year-round. Costs easily spin out of control. Crew is hired full-time even when most owners only use their yachts for a few weeks per year. Yacht charter does not satisfy either.
One of the many benefits of fractional ownership is that it allows owners to enjoy a luxurious and prestigious lifestyle at a fraction of the cost of sole ownership while freeing up capital for other forms of asset allocation that would otherwise be invested as a sole owner.

Arcadia 100, new concept flying-bridge by Arcadia Yachts
Arcadia Yachts unveils full details of A100 and its all new convertible fly-bridge
Arcadia 100 features a new concept flying-bridge, convertible into a sheltered third-deck, completely closed and protected by the side windows that can be raised up electrically to meet the hard-top
Arcadia Yachts widens its 2015 range with the new Arcadia 100′, with Hull #1 currently under construction. With a length overall of 31.06 meters but 29.29 meters waterline and 7.75 meters beam, unusual for yachts of similar size, Arcadia 100 offers a remarkable GT (internal volume), positively influencing the living space on board. Like her larger sister Arcadia 115’, this new entry as well features a third deck and is built according to Arcadia’s “family feeling” style that makes all Arcadia models immediately identifiable.
THE GREAT INNOVATION
Arcadia 100 features a new concept flying-bridge, convertible into a sheltered third-deck, completely closed and protected by the side windows that can be raised up electrically to meet the hard-top, exactly as it happens for the cars. Therefore the whole upper-deck area becomes much more flexible and usable with any weather condition, being air-conditioned in very hot climes or bad weather, or left open and aired if needed, as per any traditional flying-bridge. On the third deck are fitted the wheelhouse, a lounge with sofas and coffee tables, wet-bar and, externally in the aft, a sun-deck.
NPL HULL AND PERFORMANCE
Arcadia 100′ has a semi-displacement hull, NPL type. This kind of hull is named after the National Physical Laboratory of England where tests were conducted to determine its shape for the best ratio of length to beam in terms of hydrodynamic efficiency. Studies were implemented by Arcadia’s technical department prior to adopting the NPL as Arcadia’s hull, resulting in excellent sea keeping qualities and noise reduction, for exceptional comfort. This advanced hull, together with the light Arcadia superstructure, allows very satisfactory performance with low-power engines. It significantly reduces fuel consumption and related running costs compared to other yachts of similar dimensions. Actually the new Arcadia 100′ with two engines by 1,000 hp each reaches a maximum speed of about 18 knots, and offers cruising speed perfect for long distance day trips. Actually, at 16 knots, the fuel consumption is apx. 230 lt/h and at 14 knots this decreases to about 150 lt/h. At economical cruising speed, suitable for night navigation and long range cruises (8/10 knots), the consumption drops down to less than 50 lt/h. The Arcadia 100 cruising range is also favoured by low generator usage thanks to the electrical energy supplied by the solar panels that cover almost all of the superstructure.
ADDITIONAL ENERGY FROM SOLAR PANELS
Solar cells of latest generation are integrated between external and internal surface of double-glazing panels fitted on top of the largest part of the superstructure. This advanced and ecological system supplies enough power to run many equipment and electrical systems, like refrigerators, water circulation, toilettes, lights, A/V, electronics, while recharging batteries. Lets say, the power needed on board while at anchor, excluding the air conditioning, is supplied “free of charge” all day long by the solar panels system and convertor rather than the generators. It results in a significant saving of diesel oil, less pollution and more comfort on board thanks to the substantial reduction of noise, vibration, no gas emission while enjoying your time close to the swim platform. Each double-glazing panel contains a special gas named Krypton, which guarantees a high thermo-isolating coefficient, up to 18° of thermal cooling between interior and exterior temperatures, the equivalent of a 20 cm brick wall.
COMFORT ABOARD
The comfort aboard the Arcadia 100′ is the product of the high level of attention the yard has dedicated during construction to lowering of noise and vibrations, by the use of solutions optimizing the diffusion of these natural phenomenon and reducing their perception by guests to a minimum. Also the lack of steps, in order to obtaining flash decks on each level as a habit in all Arcadia Yachts, facilitate the circulation on board and allows a sense of comfort and continuity that is unusual in yachts of this size.
LAY-OUT AND INTERIORS
The yard proposes many internal layout variations, either four or five cabins, to meet the requirements of the majority of owners and ensure the proper comfort and privacy expected on yachts of this size. However the yard is available to develop custom interiors and different finishing solutions in order to satisfy the buyer’s expectations on every Arcadia model. The Arcadia 100′ standard version has the full beam owner’s suite amidships on the lower deck, with the bed offset to starboard facing forward. Behind the bed are the washroom with bathtub, sanitaries and twin sinks, and the dressing room with adjacent vanity area. To port we find an area to relax in, with armchairs and side- tables. All the features are integrated in a spacious environment, illuminated by large openings in the hull. Forward we have two twin cabins with their own washrooms, and then the V.I.P. Cabin. The latter has a queen size bed, a large private washroom with a separate area for the sanitaries, a vanity zone, and abundant illumination.
Other optional versions for this Arcadia 100 offer the owner’s suite afore on the main deck, opening directly on the private sun-deck, convertible in dinette, on then bow. In this case, if needed, the suite on the lower deck can be divided into two identical guest cabins by means of a folding wall, to increase the number of rooms. In both versions the crew area is spacious and finished with care; the yard has always kept crew comfort in high regard.
On the main deck, the grand living area directly connected to the cockpit, features both salon and dining zones, creating a single, bright and airy space, characterized by the transparency of the vertical side crystals and the solar panels on the ceiling. The whole living area on the main deck can be transformed into a “patio” on the sea thanks to sides sliding doors and gunwale balconies, creating an amazing “al fresco” zone with an unique sea view. The yard is proud of this distinctive solution, found only on the A 100′.
Arcadia 85, far east version by Arcadia Yachts
-Hull #07 of Arcadia 85 in its Far East edition delivered in Hong Kong
HULL #07 OF ARCADIA 85 IN ITS FAR EAST EDITION DELIVERED IN HONG KONG – M/Y Lady 007 is the name of the first Arcadia delivered in Hong Kong to Eletek. The layout and the functional living concepts of Arcadia 85 in its Far East Edition are the result of a construction evolution: the linear design of the superstructure and the vertical line of the bow allow a better use of every single available internal/external space. Living capacity is wider than other yachts of the same size. The uniqueness of Arcadia’s project is finding a design solution to integrate solar panels. Yard’s passion for solar technology and clean mobility is finally expressed in this 26mt length and 7.15 width yacht equipped with 40sqm of photovoltaic panels each composed of hundreds of high performance solar cells. That’s how and where any Arcadia Yacht generates almost all the energy for the equipment on board and gives it such excellent class-leading ”green credentials”.
Arcadia 85 Far East version “bullet points”
.Generators enhanced to support more powerful air conditioning
.Insulation increased to improve the onboard comfort according to warmer and more humid climate
.Net separation between technical crew areas including galley and guests living spaces
.An overall of 15 mt of free view from living area to stern
.A special and new color for the hull a “light grey pearl”
The design of Arcadia 85 reflects simple and understated styling with an harmonious blend between the indoor and outdoor areas. Her deckhouse has been made almost entirely out of double layered reflecting glass, giving the interior a bright and airy feel. The sliding over-head and lateral blinds can provide privacy and shade, as required by the owner and their guests once in port or in bay. Arcadia 85 impressive aft-deck lounge (8,50mt in length) features a well protected cockpit, perfect for dining, as well as large sunbathing area towards the stern of the yacht.
Arcadia 85 is a semi-planing yacht. Its particular hull (NPL) is named after the National Physical Laboratory of England. Studies and tests were implemented by Arcadia’s chief engineer and designer Francesco Guida as well as hull shape – prior to adopt the NPL as Arcadia’s Hulls with the result of excellent sea keeping qualities and noise reduction for an exceptional comfort while cruising or at anchor.
The Arcadia 85 has a full load displacement of 67 tons. She is powered by twin MAN diesels R6-730hp each, giving her the maximum speed of 18.5 knots and she can comfortably cruise at the speed of 16.5 knots, as well as 12.0 knots. Her range is approx 850NM @12.0 knots.
Arcadia 85 is designed to be a family Yacht, which combines different exterior functions in one single deck, giving guests more possibility to spend time together. While interiors profit by the advanced aesthetic sensation of “open space” and closer contact with nature thanks to the full “floor-to-ceiling” windows.
Yacht has four guest cabins at the lower deck, including the spectacular owner’s cabin admin-ship. The room is unusually large with a stunning beautiful en suite head. The large VIP forward cabin is fitted with double bed and dressing and there are two further twin cabins. The bow of the Yacht offers space for 4 crew, which can be accessed directly through the wheel-house. Overall, a remarkable space has been assigned to the crew and technical areas, including the tender garage where a 4+ meter tender and 2 seater Jet Ski can easily be stored.
Arcadia 85 main saloon is more intimate and provides space for up to 8 guests. However, the aft deck being well protected against the sea elements, gives a larger possibility to guests to spend most of the time there, instead of inside. The interior of the Yacht features modern furniture by well known “made in Italy” design brands, such as Poltrone Frau, Cassina and Schiffini. Almost all the interiors are composed of loose pieces of furniture, thus giving the option of modular layouts. In the Far East version, Arcadia 85 has a separation between galley and the dining area. Access to the wheelhouse is on the left side.
Abifloat, new concept of ‘floating villas’ by Christian Grande
ABIFLOAT – MODULAR SUSTAINABLE FLOATING VILLAS
Christian Grande, award-winning yacht designer (Picchio Boat, San Lorenzo Yachts, SACS Marine super ribs) and creator of the 2011 style-icon bicycle ‘Italia Veloce’, launches the new concept of ‘floating villas’, modular and sustainable.
An overview of the project
The proposal elaborates on the creation of floating housing units, to be built in modular chains of constructive and compositional elements for the housing envelope.
New conceptions of living close to nature and modular housing are this projects distinctive elements, characterized by attention to detail, personalization of external and internal habitats and the infinite possibilities given by modular construction: from single one-room units to actual villages articulated on several levels. All these concepts are floating and designed to integrate into the surrounding landscape.
Technical details
The key element of this project resides in the total standardization of structural elements, systems and finishings, with the sole exclusion of aesthetic variations or later functional personalizations.
The project specifications are articulated by means of simple dependable systems: buoyancy reserves, sandwich technology for walls using recycled plastic and honeycombed baffles in straw, cork or particleboard, the latter to guarantee thermal insulation and light weight.
Other exterior finishing materials are also contemplated, adaptable to different contexts and uses. For example: wide teak planks for exterior coverings with details in aluminum, roofing with either PV panels or corrugated sheet. Sizes and finishing are therefore available for any use imaginable: housing, recreation, guest accommodations or commercial uses.
The load bearing structures are tested for up to two horizontal levels and composed of stringers and posts in aluminum, with the possibility to flexibly host electrics and climate controls by means of a system of standardized joinery.
Flooring is also conceived to host electrical and plumbing systems, with hollow sections to guarantee thermal and acoustic insulation.
The floating module system
The primary structures for the system are floating 6.5 meter by 3.25 meter modules, designed as modular reference points for the installation of the various superstructures. Stability is guaranteed by the shape of the floating elements and by the possibility to use the modules as housing for both electrical and plumbing systems and and housing for larger systems such as pumps, compressors, waste holding tanks, and so on.
The housing element is designed to be enlarged horizontally as far as can be technically allowed by linking base modules, and vertically up to two floors.
The distributive system and walkways are created by means of special dock and gangway modules, railings and small bridges, all derived from the base modules. These allow the creation of guest accommodations, vacation villages or dynamic commercial centers, all with the possibility to expand, while respecting the environment and the landscape.
A further innovation is the possibility to modify the housing agglomerate in the future by changing the size, varying the layout or substituting exterior finishings. Modifications would be relatively simple and inexpensive.
The possibilities are noteworthy, and would allow an equilibrated urbanization of the marine environment, with sustainable and non-intrusive operations that are also removable (the system has been designed to be transportable by trailers on land) and even self-propelled, by equipping the base modules with electric outboard motors and thrusters attached to the linking elements.
Customization and the environment
The strength of this system is its uncommon flexibility and simplicity in installation. This foreshadows a new conception in sustainable living, the possibility of many different uses, and the even greater potential for sustainable growth.
The house boat project was conceived to offer a high potential level of customization for interior and exterior finishings. The residential user can have a lot of fun not only in configuring the ideal living space, but also in selecting energy efficient furnishings and home automation systems. A custom made retreat looking over a bay could be characterized by non-intrusive exteriors that would let the house blend in to the surrounding environment, while the interiors could be minimal or hi-tech.
Suburban rhythms, but always connected!
The future owner will be able to determine the final uses for his floating modular villa, deciding whether to be connected to the multimedia information and data networks or to live in complete isolation from civilization.
Whichever the case, the floating villa is designed to become a completely suburban habitat for those who who can afford to live at slow rhythms and without time constrictions, because it gives us the possibility to live fully emerged in the surrounding environment, with its rhythms and mutations. Situations and sensations that have become rare and forgotten will become possible and part of the daily routine: floating houses, adaptable to changing circumstances, could become schoolrooms for infants or resorts hidden away in nature, where we can cultivate culture and passion and transmit these sensations to our little ones.
Scenarios for residential and commercial use
This already futuristic project takes many scenarios, residential or not, into consideration. For example, thanks to the inherent technological content of the standard modules, it is possible to create a floating house that is simultaneously a remote office and a living unit, fully equipped with with all the necessary technological amenities, and even romantically ideal for writers and artists who are searching for relaxing and contemplative environments that favor creativity and imagination. Even with recreative or commercial use, the possibilities that the standardized system provides are multiple and permit a large degree of customization both in terms of floor layout and finishings and systems.
