A magnet for over 40 years from the hippie generation and now to the ultra-cool London set. Julie’s has been referred to as the rock chick of the restaurant world.
Opened in 1969, the decadent originality of this iconic restaurant remains. A maze of glamorous rooms and eclectic furnishings with murals, church pews and pulpits, a honeycomb of small eating areas and alcoves each in a different style including a medieval private banqueting room, you can sink into golden velvet sofa’s flanked by rich Indian carvings and stained glass window.
The great names from rock and roll, high society and Hollywood are still passing through their doors.
Julie’s Bar has remained a much-loved hideaway for Londoners and celebrities since 1969, open all day from breakfast to late night drinks. Discover the Champagne Bar and the Crypt. Both can be privately hired for drinks’ receptions. Julie’s has slowly evolved into an essential all-day neighbourhood café/restaurant.
Julie’s is a superb experience if you want to have a party, with six private rooms available. The very romantic rooms come into their own in the evenings.
Julie’s has plenty of space for alfresco eating open to the sky with an electric roof cover. The pretty Garden Room, with spiral staircase and high mirrors, all painted white for a clean fresh feel and the large Terrace, at the front of the restaurant with heaters for cool evenings, both add to the alfresco dining experience.
The menu is wholesome and adventurous, in a modest way. Fresh, simple, skilful cooking that chimes perfectly with today’s tastes.
Julie’s has filled the need for a neighbourhood restaurant, in this vibrant part of town, for many years.
It is home to a rich mix of artists as well as people in publishing, film and the media. Every Hollywood A-lister has dined at Julie’s for over 30 years. You name them, they’ve been here. A regular crowd, of this west London village, use Julie’s for business meetings, lunches with friends and show-off dinners.
Julie’s is delighted to be one of the first restaurant in London to offer parents a Sunday lunchtime crèche for children from 2 years – 12 years old. Open from 1.00pm until 4.00pm every Sunday, you can dine in a relaxed and stress free atmosphere knowing that your children are being cared for, entertained and amused by our fully qualified and energetic crèche staff.
For more than 30 years, Johnny Ekperigin has been the man behind Julie’s, Portland Road’s enduring bohemian haunt. He looks back over the years with Pendle Harte.
Everyone knows Julie’s. It’s one of London’s oldest restaurants and probably W11’s most established eateries.
